Reading A Poem

Take this poem

Read it.         Open it like a wrapped gift

Observer it

I want you to take it apart

                             Re-assemble it

    But don’t re-arrange it

                                       That would change the meaning

Take this poem

                                       And jump into it

Travel the page

                                       Like a continent

Don’t run from it. It’s not going to hurt you

Better yet chase it

                                                Find it’s meaning

Learn with it.                                    From it.

Explore it

                             It’s a paper frontier

Walk through it’s forest of letters

                                                Find the hidden wonders

Run your hands over the words

                                                As you would your hair

I try to encourage you

But some people run from it

Afraid to search for the meaning

Afraid it will attack their logic

                    Like a hungry savannah lion

When the truth is

It is usually as cool as a penguin
